SEPTA Enlists “Ride the Ducks” to Provide Service During Strike

It’s been a hectic three days for Philadelphia since SEPTA union members decided to strike, but the oft-maligned Ride the Ducks bus-boats have returned to help.

In a statement on SEPTA’s website, the transportation authority announced that they will be partnering with Ride the Ducks to use the amphibious vehicles to transport passengers until the strike breaks. “Duck vehicles will stop along the routes of the Market-Frankford Line and the Broad Street Line, as well as making detours to all your favorite historic and cultural destinations in between. Throughout your trip, the captain will bring a mix of humor and education to ease tensions during this stressful time,” the statement read.

The partnership will be especially helpful in getting Philadelphians to the polls on November 8th. “Voting has never been this fun—and wet!” the statement explained.

Each rider will also receive a complimentary “wacky quacker” noisemaker branded with the SEPTA logo and the slogan “I survived the 2016 SEPTA Strike!”

It wasn’t a full month ago that Ride the Ducks announced the end of operations in Philadelphia, citing rising insurance costs among other issues. Two accidents in 2010 and 2015 resulted in a total of three deaths. Sources within Ride the Ducks say that employees plan to walk out next week if safety conditions are not improved.
